Short version: your financial numbers never leave your device unless you choose to share a link.

Updated October 3, 2026

Your calculator inputs

Everything you type into the calculator is processed in your own browser. Your plan is saved in your browser’s local storage so it’s still there when you come back. It is not sent to us or anyone else, and we have no way to see it. Use “Reset to defaults” in the calculator, or clear your browser’s site data, to delete it.

Plan links

When you use “Copy link to my plan,” your inputs are packed into the link itself, after the # sign. That part of a link is never sent to our server. Anyone you send the link to can see the numbers in it, so only share it with people you trust.

Share images

Share images are created on your device. They show your FIRE number, target age, savings rate and withdrawal rate, not your income or balances.

Visitor statistics

We use GoatCounter, a privacy-friendly analytics service, to count visits and which features are used (for example, “opened the Coast FIRE tab”). It doesn’t use cookies, doesn’t track you across sites, and never receives the numbers you enter. It records the page, the referring site, and general browser, screen-size and country information.

Feedback messages

If you send feedback, the form submission (your message, feedback type, the page you were on and your email if you provide one) is stored by our host, Netlify, so we can read it. We only use your email to reply to you.

Email updates

If you sign up for updates, your email address is stored by Netlify and used only to send the yearly limits update and occasional major site news. You can ask to be removed at any time through the feedback form.

Embedded calculator

The calculator widget that other websites can embed works the same way: numbers stay in the reader’s browser, and we count anonymous widget views without cookies.

Third-party services

Pages load fonts from Google Fonts and the charting library from cdnjs (Cloudflare). Like any web request, these services receive your IP address and browser information.

Questions

Use the feedback form to ask about privacy or to request that a feedback message you sent be deleted.
